JERA Commits to Offshore Wind Power Generation Project
JERA plans to develop an offshore wind power generation project close to the towns of Oga, Katagami and Akita city in Akita Prefecture, Japan.
Citing the favorable wind conditions and shallow seabed off Oga, Katagami and Akita city JERA believes the environment makes the area suitable for the development of bottom-fixed offshore wind power generation.
The Project will be located off the coast of Oga City, Katagami City and Akita City and include as many as 29 wind turbines with a maximum generation capacity of 340MW.
The firm has now submitted its Primary Environmental Impact Consideration Document for the project to the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
JERA has participated in offshore wind projects in the UK and Taiwan to expand renewable energy and will apply the experience and expertise gained in the construction and operation of such large-scale offshore wind projects to the current Japanese project.
JERA plans to continue to move the project forward under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and other related authorities, giving due consideration to the opinions of other stakeholders.
Established in 2015, JERA is an equal joint venture of two major Japanese electric companies, Tepco Fuel & Power Incorporated and Chubu Electric Power Company.
JERA recently established its New Corporate Vision for 2035, indicating its goal to scale up its clean energy platform of renewables and low greenhouse gas thermal power.
