Honda to Make Structural Changes to Accelerate Electrification Business
Japanese automaker Honda announced the company will make organisational and operational changes, effective April 1, 2023, to prioritise electrification of its vehicles.
The move comes as Honda fears falling behind the pace of electric vehicle (EV) sales currently led by Tesla, BYD of China and a growing number of competitors from Europe and Vietnam.
The new division will prioritise electrification across a range of products, including cars, motorcycles and generators, Honda said in a press release.
According to Honda, this new operation will also see the current six regional operations consolidated into three regional operations - North America, China and Associated Regions.
The new Regional Operations (Associated Regions) will combine four current regional operations, namely Japan, Asia & Oceania, South America and Europe, Africa and the Middle East Region.
With this change, Honda said it will execute electrification strategies and strengthen operations for each region based on its global strategy, and will further solidify the direction of the structural changes made last year with an eye toward the realisation of carbon neutrality by 2050.
