China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Secures First Green Loan of US$297 Million
DBS Bank in Hong Kong has committed to a one-year US$297 million green loan to China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Limited (C-SAIL) for the firm to refinance its overseas renewable energy projects.
This is the first-ever green loan for C-SAIL via its special purpose vehicle C-SAIL Renewable Energy Investment Ltd, marking a milestone for reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
The loan is refinancing the bridge loans for C-SAIL’s acquisition of Alcazar Energy Partners (AEP), an independent developer and producer of renewable energy with a portfolio of solar and wind projects of a total capacity of 411MW located in Jordan and Egypt.
Wallace Lam, Managing Director and Head of the Institutional Banking Group of DBS Hong Kong, said: “We are thrilled to complete this deal as the sole lending bank for C-SAIL with high efficiency and flexibility as it progresses on its sustainability journey.”
“This landmark transaction is a significant first for C-SAIL which will help fuel the growing demand for wind and solar power in Jordan and Egypt,” added Wang Minsheng, Deputy CEO of C-SAIL.
“As a group with a mission to promote sustainable development for all sectors in which we operate, this collaboration with DBS Hong Kong recognises our mutual contribution to accelerate the energy transition in the MENA region.”
