BYD Enters Ecuadorian Vehicle Market and Eyes Production in Vietnam
China’s electric automaker giant BYD announced a strategic alliance with Andor Corporation, one of the main players in the automotive industry in Ecuador, to distribute BYD models in the country.
BYD’s HAN EV and Yuan Plus EV models of the Dynasty line were presented at a launch event in the western South American country as well as the Dolphin EV model of the Ocean line.
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, said: "We are delighted with this new step that BYD is taking in Ecuador. As a company, we want to provide our consumers with the best technology and innovation and offer solutions that allow us to improve the quality of life in our cities with clean and efficient transportation.”
In Asia meanwhile, BYD said it plans to produce electric vehicles in Vietnam and expects support from the country’s government, according to a Business Times report.
Following a May 5 meeting between Vietnam’s Deputy Premier Tran Hong Ha and BYD’s chairman and founder, Wang Chuanfu, Wang said he expects Vietnam to create “favourable conditions” for BYD to complete investment procedures so it can quickly start making EVs to be sold locally and in other parts of South-east Asia.
