ANA to Make Carbon Neutral Flights During May

To coincide with the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) summit in the city of Hiroshima Japanese airline All Nippon Airways is making all of its flights to and from the city carbon neutral during May.

Inpex Corporation (INPEX) Idemitsu Kosan (Idemitsu) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced they will jointly undertake the carbon neutralisation of jet fuel across its entire supply chain for select flights during May 1-31, 2023, as the G7 Hiroshima Summit takes place in Japan.

In this initiative, INPEX and Idemitsu will acquire carbon credits to neutralize 100 percent of the CO2 generated across the jet fuel supply chain from the production of crude oil to the operation of flights, whereupon Idemitsu will supply the carbon-neutralized jet fuel to ANA.

This marks the first instance in Japan where an airline is supplied with jet fuel whose CO2 emissions are reduced to net zero across the entire supply chain.

INPEX, Idemitsu and ANA said they will also continue to study opportunities towards building a carbon neutral society after the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

The ANA Group has set a medium- to long-term environmental goal of achieving net zero CO2 emissions from aircraft operations by fiscal 2050.
